Voting: Everyone participate!

Today in our class panel meeting, we decided to hold a vote on the blog about the painting masters program participating in our final show. The Painting and Printmaking section of the show will consist of 6 first year graduate students...as an FYI. We will decide the space accordingly if they do participate. Here is a list of pros and cons... please vote in the comment section.
(FOR or AGAINST)

You must vote by Thursday, March 26th by 3:00pm. So, TOMORROW.

Pros:

-Cross disciplinary community artists
-Greater exposure
-Better use of space
-More renovation help

Cons:
-Communication issues
-Takes the spotlight off our show
-Putting our names "on the line"

Pro/Con...We couldn't decide:
-If we don't participate we look more closed off (which is already a small problem with out dept.)

  1. Let's do it. More artists, the better. Always.

  2. I say we share. I fear that if we don't share the space that we may not receive as much traffic as we would if we shared the space.

  3. I'm against it, I feel like we can definitely do the work ourselves. This is our show and we're going to want it to look the way we want it to.
Communication between them is going to add another layer of difficulties that we don't need

  4. For it! More traffic! Teamwork makes the dream work!

  5. FOR IT! If we don't, we will look snobby and we should help out other artists as we'd want to be helped.

  6. I think i am for having other artists show with us, however, if they are jumping on our show, then i feel we should have the say as to where their work is placed within the building, and can probably use the layout of the building to keep their work from overshadowing ours. I think that the placement of each of our shows is extremely key, so if we share, which it looks like we will by the votes, then alot of thought needs to go into where each of our shows are placed.

  7. Against.

Its not a matter of snobby. Its a matter of getting the best results for our hard work. What if we just asked to jump in on someones project at the end when we didn't contribute?

  8. Against.

Only because I feel it will complicate things too much...

  9. For.
We can always use the traffic that it'll help bring through. It is a good way for us all to get other people that don't know our work to come through the gallery.

  11. For. But like I said in at the meeting, my only real concern is how the juror's will feel having another group of artists in the same space as a show they are curating. While I don't want to alienate my peers, I also don't want to alienate potential employers.

  14. I really cannot say at this time. I haven't seen the space in person. I thought we had decided during our meeting that we were not going to decide this until a majority of the class had visited the space?

If we designated an area for them to use, this is something that would have to be decided as a class at the location (I personally think). There are several people who are planning on installing in the smaller rooms. To make this decision without a group agreement would be to dishonor the hard work we have already put in.

  16. I was a little caught up with other things on thursday so I missed the vote, but I figured I'd put in a belated vote of YES! I say the more the merrier. No matter what shape, size the space is. I'm sure we could accommodate the painting and printmaking kids, and the show'll be better for it! Having two departments means double the interest for people to walk the extra 2 blacks and come to the show.
